Ayutthaya is situated just about 86 km north of Bangkok, at the confluence of three popular rivers namely, rivers Chao Phraya, Pa Sak and Lopburi. In addition, in the recent excavations, a 'treasure chest' has been dig out, which contains a relic of the Lord Buddha, besides, several golden Buddha images and ornate objects in gold, ruby and crystal. Wat Suwan Dararam or the monastery of Golden star holds a large stone image of Buddha, exactly similar to one in Bangkok. Besides, the roof columns of the monastery are embellished with beautifully sculpted murals. Other popular attractions include royal palace of Wang Luang; the ancient temple of Wat Phra Ram and the Chandra Kasem Palace.You can reach Ayutthaya by Train, Buses and mini buses. The city is hardly a day’s journey from the Thailand’s capital Bangkok. Train is the cheapest, fastest and most kaleidoscopic mode of transport to reach the city. It is also perhaps the safest way as well.
