The complex comprises five Thai houses surrounded by beautiful gardens and a tranquil pond. These mellow red houses blend in perfectly with their environs bringing to mind nature’s finest retreats.
Each of the houses holds within it an impressive collection of antiques which are not only beautiful but also extremely valuable. They are the finest tribute to Thai antiques and art. You won’t find finer or more fascinating art displays anywhere else in the Java. In the first house you will find Suphannahong Royal Barge replica. It includes an eclectic blend of artifacts from drums, to statues of the Buddha, to a carved temple door and a statue of the goddess Uma. All these are arranged to their best advantage and mesh together to give a beautiful display.
In an effort to maintain continuity, there’s a connecting bridge between the first house and the second. The second house gives you a glimpse of the Rattanakosin period; it showcases furniture from the Ayutthya (former capital of Thailand). The display includes items inlaid with mother of pearl, beautiful ivory snuff boxes and a magnificent bed and mirror set which is built along the classic Thai lines. The third house is all about the Thai classical music instrument saw sam sai. These ivory made three chord classical instruments is strewn around Other collectibles to be found include Bencharong porcelain and lacquer wares and ivory made palanquin, which was a method of conveyance in olden times.
The fourth house has numerous beautiful Buddha images. Holding center stage in this house is a stunning wooden door inlaid with mother of pearl, which is said to have graced a temple in the Ayutthaya once upon a time.
On one side of the lush gardens, standing tall and magnificent is the Lacquer Pavilion or the Hor Khien a breathtaking example of and tribute to the Ayuthhaya architecture. It boasts of the biggest collection of Ban Chiang pottery.
Apart from being a storehouse of antiques and art, the Wang Suan Pakkard is also an example of a way of life in a Thai house. The princess Chumbhol was its former resident and an ardent antique collector with a deep love for the arts. Her decorative jars and ornaments are still strewn around the house and lend a charm and freshness to the house. Admire the beauty of the ornamental plants, lush greenery and the serene pond in this beautifully landscaped garden. Go; catch a glimpse of life as it was in Thailand.
