Nakhon Ratchasima

Nakhon Ratchasima is the capital town of Nakhon Ratchasima Province. The town or city is also called korat or Khorat. This city is located somewhat 260-70 kilometers from Bangkok. The city is the 6th largest city in Thailand. The place has Khmer cultures because of their closeness to the Khmer Kingdom. The city is know for various things including their toruist spots and clay pottery products. There are also some museums of artifacts and site seeing options.
Nakhon Ratchasima has some historical significance and you will find many monuments and statues in the city which tell you about the glorious past of the place specially the Khmer dynasty.

Monument of Thao Suranar: This is also called Monument of Thao Suranari. This monument and statue is in the memory of the courageous Thai woman who was the wife of a deputy Governor of Thailand. She led the Khorat residents against the Laotian army and fought very bravely to save her people from subjugation by the enemy. Annual celebrations are help in this place in remembrance of this brave lady.
The city has lots of festivals and events which are filled with fun and merry making. During the festivals of Thao Suranari or Khun Ying MoPhimai Boat Races do take place on the river Moon near the Khmer city.
For monuments you have more like Prasat Hin Phimai which is the largest sandstone sanctuary in Thailand and is an wonderful piece of art. This is situated at the cneter of the city and has a rectangular shape.
